Here are some easy things that you can do improve recycling in your home.
If you don't have enough space in your recycling bin, contact your local council and request a bigger recycling bin.
"Never put plastic bags in your recycling bin. The bags will not be opened for staff safety reasons and all of the good recycling material locked in the plastic bag will end up in landfill." (Brisbane City Council 2014)
Have a separate recycling bin in you kitchen, to make sorting rubbish easier.
You don't need to remove label or glues from recyclables.
Remove the lids from your bottles and jars before putting them in the recycling bin as they are usually made from different plastics and this makes them easier to recycle.
Remove all food scraps and make sure that items are moderately clean before recycling.
Have a worm farm or compost bin in your back yard to recycle food scraps.
Squash large containers and boxes before putting in the recycling bin.
Recycle items from all rooms, not just the kitchen.
